Halo was a critical and commercial success and is often praised as one of the greatest video games ever made. During development, Microsoft acquired Bungie and turned Halo into a launch game for its first video game console, the Xbox. Initially, the game was a real-time strategy game that morphed into a third-person shooter before becoming a first-person shooter. Players battle aliens as they attempt to uncover the secrets of the eponymous Halo, a ring-shaped artificial world.īungie began the development of what would eventually become Halo CE in 1997. The Chief is accompanied by Cortana, an artificial intelligence. Halo is set in the twenty-sixth century, with the player assuming the role of the Master Chief, a cybernetically enhanced supersoldier. The game was later released as a downloadable Xbox Original for the Xbox 360.

Microsoft released versions of the game for Windows and Mac OS X in 2003. It was released as a launch game for Microsoft's Xbox video game console on November 15, 2001. Halomaps (3.Halo: Combat Evolved is a 2001 first-person shooter game developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft Game Studios. Mods that contain a huge graphical and ability update ( SPv3) require open sauce to play. Mods that contain a lot of files within them (Takedown: Project Lawson) or Recently, modders have been exploiting the game engine and pushing it past its limits. The last optional addition to cover is Open Sauce. Say yes, since this is an update to the original UI file. Once you find your install, take the ".map" file included in your download and drop it into the "maps" folder in your Custom Edition folder. You can usually find it under "Program Files/Microsoft Games/Halo: Custom Edition". To install the Universal UI, or any other Custom Edition map files, find your Halo: Custom Edition install. Although it will not automatically update, so if you want to play a custom single-player map not listed in the Universal UI, you must load developer mode.
The Universal UI supports most popular custom single-player maps, suchĪs Project Lumoria, CMT SPv3, Takedown, and many more projects. This will let you play and run custom modded single-player maps without a hassle of opening the game in Developer mode (see below). Now that you've got the game running, there are a few optional add-ons that anyone should grab. This next part is optional, but if you plan on making your own mods for Custom Edition, be sure to grab the Halo: Editing Kit. To keep it simple, you can just get an installer over at Halomaps.
